Pomegranate speciation is the process of identifying and classifying the different species of pomegranate. There are over 200 known species of pomegranate, but only a few are commercially grown. The most common species of pomegranate is Punica granatum, which is the type of pomegranate that is typically found in grocery stores. Other common species of pomegranate include P. protopunica, P. granatum var. nana, and P. granatum var. sylvestris.
